Google Earth™ provides an ideal way to view lightning data in reference to high-resolution imagery and other relevant geographic features of interest. Real-time data from the USPLN and NAPLN are streamed as a Google Earth-compatible layer. The Google Earth Lightning Service is extremely end-user friendly, with the capabilities to support operational needs.
The Google Earth Lightning Service offers the following features;
Subscription-based user authentication to streaming lightning data;
Customized user profiles with pre-defined start location, coverage areas and data attributes;
Storm cell representation at higher Google Earth altitudes to enhance performance;
Display of individual lightning events as the view is zoomed;
Availability of lightning event details, including location, time and peak amplitude;
Support for advanced requirements such as radial alerting;
Underlying software interface is freely available from Google.
